It is far more common than it sounds
Three planets crowding into one sign sounds like a rare event. For the inner planets it is close to routine, and for a structural reason worth understanding.
Mercury never travels more than about 28° from the Sun. Venus never travels more than about 47°. Both are inferior planets, orbiting closer to the Sun than Earth does, so from here they can only ever appear near it. A sign is 30° wide. The consequence is that Sun, Mercury and Venus fall into the same sign regularly, several times a year.
So a large share of all Trigraha yogas are that same trio, and reading such a grouping as a rare and powerful event mistakes an ordinary feature of the solar system for a personal distinction. When a source describes your Trigraha Yoga without naming the three planets, it has not told you anything.
What actually changes the reading
Which planets. Three benefics together is a different chart from three malefics together. Sun with Mercury and Venus is not Mars with Saturn and Rahu. The grouping amplifies whatever the planets already are.
Whether they are compatible. Planets that are natural friends read differently from planets that are not. Three planets forced into one sign do not cooperate simply because they are adjacent.
Combustion. This one is regularly missed. When Mercury or Venus sits very close to the Sun, classical practice reads it as combust — its significations weakened by proximity. A Sun-Mercury-Venus grouping can therefore be described as a powerful triple conjunction while two of the three planets are being read as compromised.
Which house. Three planets in the tenth speaks to career. The same three in the twelfth does not. The house concentrates whatever the grouping carries.
What is left empty. Three of seven planets in one sign means the rest of the chart is thinner. That distribution effect is usually more informative than the conjunction itself, and it is the same logic the Nabhasa yogas are built on.
A correction to what this page used to say
The earlier version of this page was built around a specific date: “Trigraha Yoga in Leo with the conjunction of Mars, Venus, and Mercury is set to take place on the 25th of July, 2023 at 4:26 AM.” It then gave a prediction for each of the twelve zodiac signs, twice, and a section on Navratri.
Two things were wrong with that, beyond the date now being years in the past while still written in the future tense.
A transit is not a birth-chart yoga. Three planets meeting in Leo on a given day is a passing sky event. A yoga in your chart is a permanent feature of the positions at your birth. The two are read differently and for different purposes, and merging them is the same category error as treating Sade Sati, a transit, as though it formed a natal combination.
A sky event cannot produce twelve different readings by sun sign. Everyone alive experiences the same transit. What differs is where it falls relative to an individual chart — which depends on the ascendant and the whole chart, not on which of twelve signs the Sun occupied at birth. Sign-by-sign forecasts for a transit are a format, not a technique, and the twenty-plus predictions this page carried were invented.
How to read yours
Find the sign holding three planets, then ask, in order: which three, are they compatible, is anything combust, which house is it, and which dasha is running. The answer is in those five questions. The label “Trigraha Yoga” contributes nothing to it beyond telling you where to look.
